XXXX Magazine, launching in October of 2009, is a multimedia online publication that showcases original productions of conceptual film, contemporary art, fashion, photography and multimedia articles as well as addresses controversial topics in the media via documentary shorts. It took over 100 contributors to bring together the first issue, which revolves around the theme “Kaleidoscopic”.
XXXX Magazine breaks the mould of traditional publishing by creating a magazine that is a 3-dimensional experience for viewers. Rather than reading an article or looking at still photographs in a magazine, the idea is a magazine with all film and multimedia content. Instead of reading an article, you can watch a documentary. Instead of looking at still fashion photographs the fashion stories unfold as movies composed to music. With high speed internet and the latest technology of film streaming, you can watch the magazine like you would watch a movie online. XXXX Magazine was created to promote collaborations between artists, showcasing the work of not just established names, but also emerging talent. We intend to maintain the creative integrity of the publication by keeping it advertising free. Aside from sponsored productions, there will be no direct advertising visible in the magazine. The celebration of “vintage” work is also an essential part of our concept, as XXXX strongly believes that early work of artists is just as essential as current work. Aside from our “virtual” online magazine, we will be showcasing the work of contributors via special events such as installations, screenings, exhibits and spontaneous “happenings” on a regular basis in cites such as New York, Paris and London.
In the launch issue we have some really interesting productions, such as “FOUR WALLS” a conceptual fashion film that directed by Indira Cesarine and Edward Symes in collaboration with designer Sue Stemp. The film was shot at Alf Naman’s contemporary art building “EMERGE-N-SEE” In Chelsea and features the work of several contemporary artists including Aaron Young, Andrew Poneros, Hubert Le Gall and Jason Miller, among others. There is also a 5 minute documentary about the making of the film, and the artist’s work that is seen in the production. Another really interesting film premiering on the site, which is not to miss, is “COUNTERFEIT CONSPIRACY”. This is a 15 minute documentary exposé on the sale of counterfeit luxury goods and the press surrounding the “links” to funding terrorism. The entire documentary was shot with undercover footage, and features a behind the scenes look at the illegal sale of such products in New York, as well as questions why there are so few arrests made for these type of crimes. Overall in the launch issue are 20 original productions, varying from 1 minute flash movies to 25 minute documentaries. To see clips from several of the films, check out our video promo!
